Why does the press brake leak oil?

The press brake is one of the commonly used equipment in the metal processing industry. Its main function is to bend and shape metal sheets. However, during long-term use, the press brake may have oil leakage problems. Oil leakage will not only affect production efficiency, but may also cause equipment damage and safety hazards. Therefore, it is very important to understand the cause of oil leakage in the press brake and take corresponding solutions.

1. The seals are aged, damaged or inappropriate

After long-term use, the seals in the hydraulic system of the press brake will age or be damaged due to mechanical wear, chemical corrosion, temperature changes and other factors. Once the seal loses its elasticity or cracks, hydraulic oil will easily leak from the seal.

Regularly checking the condition of seals is an important measure to prevent oil leakage. It is recommended that after the equipment has been used for a period of time, especially the seals that have exceeded their service life, they should be replaced in time. Choosing seals with reliable quality and good wear resistance can effectively extend their service life and reduce the risk of oil leakage.

It is also possible that the sealing ring does not match the usage conditions. The O-shaped rubber sealing ring commonly used in press brakes must be selected according to the use conditions and working status of the equipment. Under oil lubrication conditions, the hardness of the oil-resistant rubber O-ring seal is: when the oil pressure is <2.9MPa, low hardness can be selected; when the oil pressure is 2.9-4.9MPa, medium hardness should be selected; when the oil pressure is 4.9-7.8 MPa, high hardness should be selected.

2. The hydraulic system pressure is too high

Excessive pressure in the hydraulic system will cause the seal to withstand excessive pressure. When it exceeds its withstand capacity, it will cause seal failure, thereby causing oil leakage. Abnormal pressure in the hydraulic system may be caused by failure of the pressure regulating device or improper operation.

Regularly inspect and maintain the pressure regulating device of the hydraulic system to ensure that it is working properly and that the pressure is within the specified range. Operators should operate the equipment in strict accordance with the operating procedures to avoid excessive pressure in the hydraulic system due to misoperation.

3. Pipe connections are loose

The connection parts of the hydraulic pipeline may become loose or damaged due to vibration, external force, etc. during long-term use, thereby causing hydraulic oil leakage.

The connection parts of the hydraulic pipeline should be checked regularly to ensure that the connection is tight. If loose or damaged pipe fittings are found, they should be tightened or replaced in time. In addition, during the operation of the equipment, attention should be paid to preventing impact and damage to the pipelines from external forces.

4. Hydraulic oil quality issues

The use of inferior or substandard hydraulic oil will cause corrosion or deposition inside the system, affect the sealing effect, and lead to oil leakage. Hydraulic oil of poor quality may also accelerate the aging and wear of seals.

Choose high-quality hydraulic oil that meets specifications and change it regularly. At the same time, when replacing hydraulic oil, clean the tank and filter to keep the hydraulic system clean.

5. Fuel tank and pipeline design issues

If the oil tank and pipeline design of the press brake are unreasonable, it may lead to poor oil circulation or uneven pressure, which may lead to oil leakage. For example, unreasonable tank design will cause the oil to produce a large number of bubbles in the tank, affecting the normal operation of the hydraulic system.

During the design and manufacturing stages, ensure proper design of fuel tanks and pipelines. For existing equipment, the oil circulation and pressure distribution can be optimized by improving the design to reduce the possibility of oil leakage.

6. External force damage

During operation, components of the hydraulic system of the press brake may be deformed or damaged due to external impact or other mechanical damage, resulting in hydraulic oil leakage.

During operation, pay attention to protect the hydraulic system and avoid external impact. Operators should receive professional training and master correct operating methods. If components of the hydraulic system are found to be damaged, they should be replaced or repaired in time to avoid further deterioration of oil leakage.
