How to deal with laser cutting machine cutting surface is not vertical? (2)

In the actual use of laser cutting machine, the problem that the cutting surface is not vertical often occurs. This problem not only affects the appearance quality of the product, but also may lead to errors in the assembly and subsequent processing of the parts. In the previous article, we introduced 4 possible causes of non-vertical cutting surface, and today we introduce another 4 causes and solutions for you.

1. Reasonable use of auxiliary gas

During laser cutting, auxiliary gases (such as oxygen, nitrogen, etc.) are often used to help blow away the slag and cool the cutting surface. If the flow rate or pressure of the auxiliary gas is improper, the slag may not be removed in time, resulting in irregular deposits on the cutting surface, affecting the perpendicularity of the cutting.

The solution:

Select the appropriate auxiliary gas according to different cutting materials. For example, oxygen is commonly used for cutting carbon steel, while nitrogen is suitable for cutting stainless steel and aluminum alloys. Adjust the flow and pressure of the auxiliary gas to ensure that the gas can effectively blow away the slag and keep the cutting surface clean and smooth. Check the gas system before cutting to ensure that the gas pressure and flow rate are within the appropriate range to avoid insufficient or excessive gas.

2. Choose the right material thickness

The thickness of the material directly affects the cutting effect of the laser beam. For thicker materials, the laser beam will gradually spread during penetration, causing the laser energy at the bottom to weaken, and then the cutting surface is not vertical.

The solution:

When selecting the thickness of the material, ensure that the power of the laser cutting machine is sufficient to deal with the thickness of the cutting. If the material thickness exceeds the power capacity of the laser, the material can be removed layer by layer by multiple cuts, ensuring that the cutting surface is vertical. In addition, try to avoid using too thick materials, especially in the case of insufficient laser power.

3. Maintain the accuracy of the mechanical system

The mechanical part of the laser cutting machine, such as the guide rail, motor and transmission system, is prone to wear, loosening or error after a long time of use. This will affect the trajectory of the laser head, resulting in deviations in the cutting process, and then affect the perpendicularity of the cutting surface.

The solution:

Check and maintain the mechanical system of the laser cutting machine regularly to ensure that the guide rail is straight, the motor is running normally, and the transmission system is not loose or worn. Lubricate rail and transmission components regularly to reduce mechanical wear. At the same time, it is recommended to calibrate the equipment before each operation to ensure that it is in optimal operating condition. If the mechanical system is found to be worn or aged, the relevant parts should be replaced in time.

4. Clean and maintain the equipment regularly

The long-term use of the laser cutting machine may lead to the accumulation of dust, oil and other impurities on the surface and inside of the equipment, which will affect the transmission and cutting accuracy of the laser beam, and then affect the perpendicularity of the cutting surface.

The solution:

The optical components of the laser cutting machine (such as lenses, laser heads) are cleaned regularly to ensure that their surfaces are free of dust and contaminants. It is also necessary to clean the cutting table regularly to prevent debris from affecting the smooth placement of materials. In addition, regularly check the cooling system and auxiliary gas system of the laser cutting machine to ensure its normal operation and avoid overheating or insufficient gas affecting the cutting effect.
